"jarg2ztxt" Usage: "jarg2ztxt [-s] jargNNN.gz" -Takes a copy of the flat-text version of The Jargon File and splits it into pieces somewhat like the html version and makes those into ztxt files with appropriate bookmarks, suitable for reading with gutenpalm . The '-s' option makes the lexicon itself be made into 27 separate files ([0A-Z]) with bookmarks for each entry. The default is to make the lexicon one (huge) file with bookmarks for only each letter (and 0). I use the -s option, but don't let me tell you what to do :) . Needs makeztxt, also available from the gutenpalm site. Installation: There's probably no real reason to install this program. You could sling the jarg2ztxt script somewhere in you $PATH, but for the one-shot nature of this script using it as: "/path/to/jarg2ztxt [-s] /path/to/jargNNN.gz" is probably just as well. NOTE: No one should _have_ to use this program, If you're using this because there is not a current version of the jargon file up at http://lowdrag.org/gutenstuff/ Please send me a clue by email or drop in at OPN #alg. NOTE: This program will generate a whole bunch of ztxt files in the current working directory and will overwrite anything that just happens to have the same name without the least warning. fortunately, all the files will start with two digits and end with ".pdb", so it's pretty unlikely. Nonetheless, it's probably best to execute this thing from a dedicated directory so as not to cause a mess. NOTE: This works on a Debian GNU/Linux SID box current to early 2002. I suppose it'll work on anyone's UNIX-ish machine, if it does or doesn't please email me and I'll add the info to this file or fix it (and, of course if you just fix it yourself I'd be happy to have that emailed to me as well). I have no reason to believe this will work on anyone's hot-rodded MacOS, VMS, MSDOS or ENIAC machine. Since I have no means or interest in changing this situation I'm documenting it here and proclaiming it a feature. Bugs: Well, There are some odd linebreaks here and there, but those may be artifacts of the flat text version of the jargon file itself. I also notice that the flat text version is scheduled to be phased out. :( Author: Mick McMillan mick@lowdrag.org
